I am an impulsive person. I first wanted a hedgehog but they are expensive but turns out low maintenance (money wise) because they only eat mealworms and cat food. I instead went with guinea pigs. I got the guinea pigs on September 11, 2019, the day I got back from Santa Monica. I went straight to PetSmart after picking up my car. I had their names picked out and a cage ready.
I wanted two Peruvian piggies because their hair is so beautiful. When Toaster Oven is walking around it’s like a moving toupee. I didn’t know that you had to make sure they got along first before putting them together. At first they were fine but then they started fighting all the time. ALL THE TIME. So I had to divide them up, got them seperate water bottles, their own food dishes, etc. I didn’t really think about the cost of all their food. Fresh veggies every day, plus hay and pellets.
At some point I realized I should have just gotten a kitten. Cats are awesome. Then I couldn’t wait so I got Isa. Now I have been treating the guinea pigs like red-headed stepchildren. Just not giving them the attention they deserve. I saw on Craigslist that there is a nearby Cavy rescue, reached out, and tomorrow I am handing over the boys.
