My study-abroad trip to Iceland did not happen so I had to scramble to fill my time in Portland. Here is what I got:
Collecting signatures for IP-17, a gun safety measure that we are going to have on the ballot this November in Oregon. It requires a background check and a safety course to get a permit to buy a gun. It also limits high-capacity magazines to 10 rounds.
In Oregon a person is automatically registered to vote when they get their driver’s license at the dmv. We needed 112k signatures, we got the 140k that was our goal. Always want to have the buffer. The ballot was written by lawyers that I got to meet and the whole thing was put together by an inter-faith coalition. I definitely put my heart into it and it was emotionally taxing.
After collecting signatures I spent my days working in a pizzeria. Worked with a great group of people.
