I was so looking forward to this movie back in 2020. Then freakin’ Covid happened so it got postponed. Then it got postponed again. I saw it tonight with the Thursday crowd. I really enjoyed it. Picks up right where it left off. Gives some backstory on what happened that night in ’78. The dialogue was awesome. There were a few scares in there just for us–guy scares himself looking in the mirror–so that was nice.
I think there was quite a bit of self-reflection going on. The other day I was watching TRAIN TO BUSAN, Korea’s first zombie movie. Brilliant film. A theme was fear–obviously of someone wanting to bite you (duh), but also of being so afraid that we stop being human. It’s perfectly natural to only think of yourself when you are afraid. Instinct is always about self-preservation, and to hell with everyone else. But when a crowd of terrified people are making decisions bad shit happens. Back to HALLOWEEN, I really liked the storyline because it leads to the inevitable showdown in the next film.
Spoiler Alert! What the hell local townspeople! A freaking monster is in front of you and you take turns hitting and shooting? Do you know who you are fighting?! This isn’t a fair fight, GANG UP on the guy to kill him. Duh! Regardless of what they throw at him he is still Michael Myers. I swear that man’s power is in the mask because he puts that on and he becomes invincible.
