4 Weeks into Law School

Four weeks in and the schoolwork isn’t getting any harder. If this is the hardest year of law school then the next two I will complete in my sleep. I do look forward to the elective classes, though. International law, Immigration law, maybe Antitrust and some criminal classes. My goal right now is simple: #1 Class Rank. I am leaving this college town to go home to Portland so if I want to compete with grads from Oregon, Lewis & Clark, Willamette, and U of Washington, then I need to be #1 and graduate with honors.

When I was completing law school applications I realized that if and when I have children at least one of them will become a lawyer. So if I have one kid–that kid is going to be a lawyer. If it’s a girl I will have her enrolled at St. Mary’s school for girls. Tuition is like $15,000 a year (I checked) and a lot of those girls go on to be doctors and scientists.

My mother struggled to get here and worked double shifts ALL THE TIME to put food on the table. I struggled to get into law school and am now flourishing. With what I know now about the expectations of law schools when applying, I am going to prepare my kids from a young age.
